Agent Snapshot: Betty Shindler, Realtor Associate, Martha Turner Sotheby’s International Realty, Houston

Betty-Shindler

Betty Shindler is a Realtor associate with Martha Turner’s Sotheby’s International Realty working in Houston.

What was your first job in the realty industry? Sales.

What do you do to relax when you’re stressed? Walk, read and listen to music.

Growing up, what did you want to be? Interior designer.

If you could have lunch with a well-known figure (living or not), who would it be and why? William Buckley – to listen to him discuss any topic would be fascinating. That does not mean I agree with him on every issue, but he is one of the great intellects of our time.

Where is your favorite place to hang out? Home.

What do you love most about the industry? Helping people find their dream home either by selling or buying. It is the largest transaction some people will ever make, and to be able to guide people through the process and make the end result a pleasant experience is truly satisfying.

How do you distinguish yourself from the crowd of agents? Most of my business is from referrals. That alone distinguishes me. People are surprised at the level of dedication I bring to every transaction and my willingness to go the extra mile. That message gets repeated from one satisfied client to the next.

What is the most difficult aspect of your job? I would have to say keeping up with the multitude of new apps, technology, reports and reading material. We are inundated with information. Weeding through what is valuable and what is not can take up much needed time for other things.

Where do you go to network and meet new clients? Everywhere I go is an opportunity to meet someone new. Airport, grocery market, hair salon, gas station – everywhere.

What has been you greatest accomplishment? Every transaction is an accomplishment – on a business level. Personally, growing in my personal life is extremely important.

What was the last good movie you saw or book you read? “World Order” by Dr. Henry Kissinger

What is your favorite restaurant? Grotto Restorante, an Italian place.

Architecturally speaking, what is your favorite building in Houston? Rice University’s main building.

What kind of car do you drive? Lexus G class.

Smartphone or paper? Smartphone.

What is your favorite city after Houston? San Diego, Calif.

What is your advice for someone new to the industry? Affiliate with a company who has a strong training program and support system. A large referral system is also necessary. Advertise! Advertise! Advertise!

What’s your favorite real estate iPhone/Android app? HAR.com.

Who are your favorite people to follow on Twitter? I don’t use Twitter much.
