Agent Snapshot: Jennifer Hamp, Realtor-Owner, Realty One Group – Lone Star, Sugar Land

Jennifer-Hamp

Jennifer Hamp is a Realtor and owner of the Hamp Team with Realty One Group – Lone Star in Sugar Land.

What was your first job in the realty industry? Realtor. I went out shopping at Target and got my first listing while looking in the baby section. Jumped into real estate in 2008 while friends were saying it wasn’t not a good time to jump in because the market was slow and too tough.

What do you do to relax when you’re stressed? Riding my Harley, yard work, baking and exercising.

Where did you grow up? Born in Maryland, then two places in Pennsylvania, Alabama, Texas, Florida, Wisconsin, Texas, Kentucky and then finally back to the best state ever, Texas!

Growing up, what did you want to be? Nurse.

If you could have lunch with a well-known figure (living or not), who would it be and why? President Reagan. He had so much wisdom and had a way of getting anyone to do what he wanted them to do. Even facing the most difficult situations, he was able to make headway. I admired how he treated Nancy and others he worked with, played with, even the media – a gentleman in so many ways. Men like him are so rare to find with so much integrity, so well rounded in all aspects of life. Wish I could have met him.

I would have chosen my dad to, but you said famous. He is in my heart.

Where is your favorite place to hang out? On the front porch having coffee with my two dogs, or at the beach listening to the waves and watching the wildlife and people.

What do you love most about the industry? Developing relationships with my clients that will last a lifetime. Educating first time buyers; showing them that my skills bring value to the transaction.

How do you distinguish yourself from the crowd of agents? By doing what I say and doing what other Realtors don’t. I let my clients know that they are valued by me (not a dollar sign) by seeing my ethics at work and communicating even after the close of the home. Service with a smile. Dedicated to being their Realtor for life.

What is the most difficult aspect of your job? When a prospect lies about using me as their Realtor, gets information from me and then uses a friend in the industry that will discount their commission just to get the deal. More often than not, the client won’t even get the best deal because their discount agent is capable or prepared to negotiate to get the best deal. They make our industry look cheap and low. When the Realtor on the other side of the transaction is unethical, we have to do their job to get the home to closing.

Where do you go to network and meet new clients? Everywhere I go I am looking for new prospects. I hand out as many of my business cards as possible to people I meet. I love meeting strangers in elevators as they are a captive audience.

What has been you greatest accomplishment? Being a mom of five children and staying married for 38 years. Earning the Rookie of the Year award in 2008 with Keller Williams when the market was hit hard. I am stoke I did it and was shocked I got the award because of the competition I was up against. Made a six-figure income my first year, also, and I only have a high school education. I was 50-years-old when I got into real estate. I have so much more to say!

What was the last good movie you saw or book you read? The movie Lonesome Dove and Zig Ziglar’s audiobook on motivation.

What is your favorite restaurant? Pappasito’s

Architecturally speaking, what is your favorite building in Houston? I love the historic buildings in the Heights area and downtown Houston, one is an old grocery store that has been remodeled to a home, which we are trying to get for one of our clients. Totally cool and great location.

What kind of car do you drive? Infiniti QX60.

Smartphone or paper? iPhone.

What is your favorite city after Houston? Humboldt, Calif.

What is your advice for someone new to the industry? Be yourself, never ever quite, be sincere, if you don’t know the answer, let them know you don’t but will find out the answer, stay positive by listening to positive motivational speakers and get rid of all negative people around you…oops! That might hard if it’s a spouse:)

What’s your favorite real estate iPhone/Android app? The one my broker has that allows us to share with our clients for homes on the market.

Who are your favorite people to follow on Twitter?
The Hamp Team twitter page. We have a social media person that does all of our social media for our team. Busy Realtors need help in areas so we can stay focused on our clients. This is one way to delegate so I have more time to prospect, also.
