Agent Snapshot: Karen Woodworth, Realtor, Better Homes and Gardens Real Estate Gary Greene, Katy

Karen Woodworth

Karen Woodworth is a Realtor with Better Homes and Gardens Real Estate Gary Greene working in Katy.

What was your first job in the realty industry? I was raised in real estate since my father was a top producer in the field for over 35 years. My first actual job in the industry was in Katy with BHGRE Gary Greene.

What do you do to relax when you’re stressed? I like to spend time with my grown children and husband. We like to try out new restaurants and travel. Our favorite places so far have been Paris and Italy.

Where did you grow up? St. Joseph, Mo.

Growing up, what did you want to be? A school teacher. I had a lot of babysitting jobs to earn money, and I taught vacation bible schools and camps during high school. I was a transitional kindergarten teacher in Louisiana and Alabama prior to moving to Texas.

If you could have lunch with a well-known figure (living or not), who would it be and why? Corrie ten Boom. Her father and her family helped many Jews escape the Nazis before they were discovered and imprisoned themselves. She wrote the book “The Hiding Place,” and I saw the movie as a youth and it impacted my life. To think of the sacrifices and risks involved for people they didn’t even know. She has many great quotes, but perhaps my favorite one is: “Happiness isn’t something that depends on our surroundings; it’s something we make inside ourselves.”

Where is your favorite place to hang out? I am a sports fan, so it is hard to pick. I love going to the Kansas City Royals or Kansas City Chiefs games; our son graduated from University of Arkansas so I enjoy going to a Razorback football games, and our daughter is a freshman at Baylor so I am learning to enjoy “Sic’em bears!”

What do you love most about the industry? I enjoy the fact that every day and every client is different. It is never boring or mundane. I am a people person and it brings a smile to my face and heart to know when I have found the perfect home for a family.

How do you distinguish yourself from the crowd of agents? In one word: PERSISTENCE. I have been told I am like a bulldog when I am working for my client. I continually work on the deal until it is closed. I even helped a client move out the day of closing when they were unable to get done in time. Perhaps the best way to describe me is this testimony: “Karen Woodworth is an AWESOME Realtor. Karen was devoted to meeting all my needs in buying a house. She has a beautiful, charming, warm personality coupled with detailed knowledge of realty and the different housing areas; and the persistence to make sure my needs were met. She is the first realtor who took the time to get to know me and match me with the perfect house for me. She helped me see things I would not have necessarily noticed myself in making the final decision. I would recommend Karen to anyone looking to buy a house.”

What is the most difficult aspect of your job? Learning not to take things personally.

Where do you go to network and meet new clients? Bible study and neighborhood functions. I was very active with my children’s schools, and I am fortunate to still have contacts from these activities, as well.

What has been your greatest accomplishment? My greatest personal accomplishment has been the birth of my children.
My greatest real estate accomplishment was being named BHGRE Gary Greene-Katy 2013 Katy Rookie of the Year and earning the Silver Performance Award for 2013.

What was the last good movie you saw or book you read? Gone Girl.

What is your favorite restaurant? Pappadeaux.

Architecturally speaking, what is your favorite building in Houston? It would have to be the homes in the Heights and River Oaks.

What kind of car do you drive? Acura MDX.

Smartphone or paper? BOTH.

What is your favorite city after Houston?  Kansas City, Mo.

In 10 words or less, what is your advice for someone new to the industry?  Be persistent, confident and have a good sense of humor.

What’s your favorite real estate iPhone/Android app? Homestory.
