Agent Snapshot: Samantha Bowers, Realtor, JLA Realty, Northeast Houston

Samantha Bowers

Samantha Bowers

What was your first job in the realty industry? I had just put my personal home on the market and my Realtor offered me a position as his administrative assistant, we later teamed up and I worked exclusively with home buyers.

What do you do to relax when you’re stressed? I enjoy getting messy with the kiddos – cooking, sprinklers or painting – until I think about the clean up. I really enjoy live music along with a cold beverage on a patio with good company, and October through April of course!

Where did you grow up? I was born in Norfolk, Va. (Navy brat all the way) We moved to Kingwood, Texas when I was six, and later to Spring, where I graduated from Spring HS.

Growing up, what did you want to be? I really wanted to be a veterinarian when I was little – I love animals. I later wanted to be an interior decorator or designer of some sort. I later received my degree as a graphic designer.

If you could have lunch with a well-known figure (living or not), who would it be and why? This is super tough but it would either be Ronald Reagan or Audrey Hepburn. Both had such grace and passion for their convictions. I would most certainly take away some positives from them.

Where is your favorite place to hang out? My own backyard watching the kids play!

What do you love most about the industry? I really enjoy how everyday is completely different, and being able to truly help my clients find their own piece of the American Dream is so rewarding.

How do you distinguish yourself from the crowd of agents? I draw upon my own personal experiences in order to give them the best options for their circumstances. I too had challenges purchasing my own personal home. I speak from experience in helping those with weak credit, the first-time homebuyer and the moving up homebuyer. And I absolutely love showcasing a home’s best assets to help sell a home to the prefect buyer.

What is the most difficult aspect of your job? All the moving pieces can be a challenge to coordinate but when it flows it’s just as if I were the conductor of a large symphony and the woodwinds flowed flawlessly into the percussion section!

Where do you go to network and meet new clients? I rely heavily on the people who know and love me referring me to their other friends and family, but I meet people everywhere. I have even met a homebuyer going through the Starbucks drive thru.

What has been your greatest accomplishment? I know most mom’s say this and it still holds true: my three kids are so fun and I’m so excited I get to experience all of their great and not so great moments while they are growing up.

What was the last good movie you saw or book you read? I just finished reading “Less BlahBlah and More AhHa” by Ken Brand. It was a great, inspiring tale that will help my business grow!

What is your favorite restaurant? I am forever a fan of Thai Pepper. Their Pineapple Fried Rice is to die for!

Architecturally speaking, what is your favorite building in Houston? I love the Heritage Plaza building it always reminds me of the building Zuul occupied through out the movie.

What kind of car do you drive? I have an Acura MDX. I need that third row seat and extra storage with the kids and my large yard signs!

Smartphone or paper? Smartphone, for sure. This is the best time to be in this business. Technology is a blessing most days.

What is your favorite city after Houston? I love the Austin weird vibe the community as a whole is much more outdoorsy and I love all the activity.

In 10 words or less, what is your advice for someone new to the industry? Don’t give up…just keep swimming!

What’s your favorite real estate iPhone/Android app? I am a fan of our Houston Association of Realtors app. It’s my tried and true app for information.

Who are your favorite people to follow on Twitter? I’m a fan of the Magnolia Mom Joanna Gaines, but who isn’t obsessed with the hit show Fixer Upper right now?
