HAR: Houston home sales rise 16%

Closings jumped 16% year over year in Houston during the week ended Oct. 20, according to the Weekly Activity Snapshot from the Houston Association of REALTORS®.

Homebuyers purchased 1,658 homes during the week, up from 1,429 closings a year prior. Pending listings, however, declined 2.6% year over year, with 1,928 listings going under contract.

Meanwhile, active listings saw a bump as Realtors added 3,533 new listings to the MLS, a 12.3% year-over-year increase.

The number of property showings and open houses also jumped annually during the week: Showings rose 6.6%, with 34,740 tours given, and open houses shot up 25%, with 9,790 in-person and virtual events held.
