Houston schools were heavily represented in Newsweek’s recently released report “America’s Top High Schools 2015,” with 12 schools finding a place among the publication’s rankings.
The schools were evaluated on a range of criteria, from graduation rate to the portion of students “college bound,” and then further divided into two separate ranking categories: national and “Beating the Odds,” for which researchers considered student poverty rates.
Here are the Houston-area schools that made the cut, along with their rankings and a few other metrics:
It is worth noting that while seven Houston schools made Newsweek’s top 500 national high schools, 10 made the publication’s “Beating the Odds” list; the most impressive being Eastwood Academy, which managed a 100 percent graduation rate with nearly 80 percent of its students being considered college bound despite an 87.5 percent poverty rate.
