Houston is one of the top destinations for relocations

by Rincey Abraham

After Texas was named one of the top growth states by U-Haul, another moving company acknowledged Houston for its growth. The Bayou City is No. 4 on Penske Truck Rental’s list of top moving destinations

To come up with the rankings, Penske tracked one-way truck reservations made for every city in the country. Cities in the South dominated the top five, with Atlanta, Dallas/Fort Worth and Tampa/Sarasota making the top of the list.

“Our own data, compiled from do-it-yourself moves across the country, mirror the country’s migration and areas of growth,” explained Don Mikes, Penske’s senior vice president of rental.

Houston made the largest jump from last year, going from No. 9 in 2016 to No. 4. Brand new to the top 10 list is Portland, Oregon, which came in at No. 10.

The top 10 cities in 2017 are:

  1. Atlanta
  2. Phoenix
  3. Dallas/Fort Worth
  4. Houston
  5. Tampa/Sarasota
  6. Orlando
  7. Las Vegas
  8. Denver
  9. Charlotte
  10. Portland
