Sunterra named top-selling Houston master-planned community

by Lindsey Wells

The two newest communities from Starwood Land and Land Tejas have quickly gained national notice, ranking among the nation’s 20 top-selling master-planned communities, according to a new report by Robert Charles Lesser & Co. (RCLCO).

The housing research firm places Sunterra at No. 8 on its mid-year report that ranks sales in master-planned communities nationally. The report tracked new-home sales from January through June of this year.

Starwood Land/Land Tejas reported 450 home sales in Sunterra during that timeframe, placing Sunterra as the No. 8 development for home sales in the nation and No. 1 in the Greater Houston area. Tied for No. 20 nationally is Marvida, with 320 new-home sales.

“It’s amazing that two new communities can be ranked nationally so soon after starting home sales,” said James Henrie, chief operating officer at Land Tejas. “Both Sunterra and Marvida are very exciting communities with the great home builders, convenient locations and unique planned amenity packages that home shoppers are looking for today.”

Located in Katy, Sunterra offers homes priced from the upper $200,000s to more than $800,000 by 19 builders.

“Like our other communities, our amenities are always a draw for our homebuyers,” Henrie added. “Another factor proving popular are the excellent school districts for so many of our communities.”

Marvida boasts a Cypress location and homes by 16 builders priced from the upper $200,000s to the $600,000s, with students attending the highly acclaimed Cy-Fair ISD. Plans for Marvida include the Island Amenity Village, which will offer a resort-style pool, lazy river, splash pad, clubhouse, playgrounds, dog park, fitness facility, sports courts, shade pavilion and event lawn.

According to the report, Land Tejas/Starwood Land is the only developer in Houston with two projects ranked in the top 20 nationally. Now celebrating 25 years of residential land development, Land Tejas has 12 active communities in the Greater Houston area.
