The National Association of Mortgage Brokers celebrates 50 years

by Valerie Saunders

The National Association of Mortgage Brokers (NAMB) has been the voice of the mortgage industry since 1973. We are currently celebrating our 50th anniversary in 2024! This volunteer-led, member-driven organization represents the interests of more than 993,000 licensed and registered Mortgage Loan Originators and 68,000 licensed Mortgage Broker and Mortgage Lender businesses throughout the U.S.

NAMB has an aggressive agenda in 2024 as we work diligently to provide enhanced professional development tools, work closely with lawmakers in Congress on matters that impact consumers and industry professionals while also supporting our newly formed corporate board of governors and several committees such as our diversity, equity and inclusion committee.

Our promise as an organization is that we continue to understand our critical role in the growth of the housing industry. We take this responsibility seriously and are focused on making our 50th year of operations one of the most productive in the history of NAMB.

Professional development/education opportunities for its members and non-members is a critical component of NAMB’s 2024 agenda and offers several certification and recertification options providing individuals with an opportunity to be recognized as leaders within the increasingly competitive field of mortgage brokering.

The certification exams measure a core body of knowledge shared by competent professionals in the field. NAMB now offers eight certification programs including CFMP, CREV, CMC, CVLS and several more.

In addition, NAMB will continue to be the voice of the marketplace to lawmakers as it continues its work on a detailed legislative agenda including, but not limited to, supporting the Homebuyers Privacy Protection Act (S.3502), designed to end troubling trigger leads. NAMB and its members have been working on the trigger lead issue for the past three congresses. We are encouraged by the expanded interest in this issue by members of both the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives.

Looking forward to the rest of 2024, NAMB understands the challenges those working in the marketplace face with regards to fluctuating interest rates.  NAMB is hopeful that interest rates will stabilize in 2024 and continue to be more competitive in 2025 and into 2026.

As the industry experiences the current market conditions, NAMB is focused on providing those working in the industry with several marketing opportunities through our vast array of strategic sponsors and continued member benefits focused on reducing administrative costs for the small business owner.

NAMB has recently added strategic relationships with companies such as ARIVE, an industry leading loan origination system; 20/20 Vision for Success, Broker CMO, Berman Media PD, Loan Team Training and Chelsea Gardner Marketing, all focused on bringing out the best in loan originators through coaching and marketing opportunities; Outsource Broker Support and BrokerVA, aimed at helping companies with alternatives in customer service and processing needs and Hewlett Packard, creating a store providing members with discounted products needed for their day to day operation including laptops, printers and more.

NAMB continues to look for the tools and resources that every MLO and small business needs to help set them up for success in 2024 and beyond. The cost of membership in NAMB easily pays for itself by taking advantage of just one of our cultivated relationships.

NAMB is grateful to share its message with the incredible people who work diligently in the housing marketplace and are always looking for new ways to partner and grow the overall housing industry across the United States.

Valerie Saunders is the president of NAMB.
