New-home sales declined in all four of Texas’s major metropolitan areas, with the greatest decreases seen in Houston and Dallas-Fort Worth.
According to the latest report from HomesUSA, there were approximately 2,046 new-home sales in Houston in January, down from 2,184 in December 2024. However, that’s an increase from January 2024, when 1,850 new homes sold.
“January sales are often lower than December as builders push hard to close the year with as many sales as possible,” said Ben Caballero, founder and CEO of HomesUSA. “Builders were offering discounts, buyer incentives and Realtor bonuses for December closings. A slower January is not unusual for that reason.”
Meanwhile, the average new-home price dropped about $6,000 month over month to $395,515. Days on market remained steady at about 89 days.
