New listings take sharp decline in Houston

by Emily Marek

The Houston real estate market was impacted by power outages caused by Hurricane Beryl during the 28th week of the year, as evidenced by the sharp decline in new listings.

According to the Weekly Activity Snapshot from the Houston Association of REALTORS® (HAR), new listings declined 34.6% year over year, with 2,180 listings added to the market compared to 3,334 listings during the same week in 2023.

Pending and closed listings also took a nosedive during the week: Pending listings dropped 42.7%, with 1,431 homes going under contract, while closed listings fell 27.5%, with 1,347 homes sold.

However, listing views on HAR.com rose 48.9% year over year, which suggests that the week’s market activity wasn’t an indicator of current consumer interest in Houston.
