Southern states are leading the way when it comes to downtown apartment construction. Houston ranks 3rd in the United States for active downtown apartment construction with 15,607 new units built in the last 10 years, according to StorageCafe.
Houston’s Downtown Living Initiative has long been committed to improving downtown areas by promoting economic and business development and providing incentives for multi-family developments. The over 15,000 units built since 2013 represent nearly two thirds of all housing units in downtown Houston.
Additionally, 2,700 units are currently under construction across downtown Houston, meaning apartment housing will continue to grow.
Atlanta tops StorageCafe’s list with 21,508 new units since 2013.
