With 4,746 units built in the first six months of 2022, Houston leads the country in new apartment construction, according to a new report from RentCafe. The residential rental analyst also noted that Austin, San Antonio and Dallas were among the top 20 cities with the most new apartment construction.

Despite booming rental construction in the first half of 2022, other metro areas are expected to pass Houston before the end of the year. New York City is projected to have 28,153 new apartment units finished before the start of 2023, while Austin is estimated to bring an extra 18,288 units to the market.
