Four of the most pet-friendly cities for renters are in Texas, according to a new report from Zillow.
The real estate site analyzed the top 100 cities with the most rental listings to determine which had the most pet-friendly options available. Austin ranked as the most pet-friendly city, with 80.8% of all rental listings allowing pets.
Dallas and Fort Worth came in at Nos. 2 and 3 respectively, with 78% of rental listings allowing furry friends in Dallas and 77.2% allowing them in Fort Worth. A little further down the list is San Antonio, where 75.8% of listings allow renters to bring animals. Site-wide, only 55.1% of listings allow pets.
Zillow’s most recent Consumer Home Trends Report shows that 59% of all renters have a pet: a post-pandemic spike. In 2019, that figure was significantly lower at 46%. Zillow users are also twice as likely to filter for pet-friendly listings than any other filter on the site.
“As more people started working from home, pet ownership soared,” said Zillow Home Trends Expert Amanda Pendleton. “Pets are widely considered part of the American family, so it makes sense that they factor into moving decisions and impact housing preferences.”
