‘Affordable luxury’ is attainable in these Houston ZIP codes

by Emily Marek

Renters can find affordable luxury rental units for less in certain Houston-area neighborhoods — more than $100 less than the typical upscale unit in the area, that is.

According to a recent report from RentCafe, the typical upscale unit in the Houston area has a monthly price tag of $1,704. However, in the 77068 ZIP — in the northwest Houston area — upscale units have an average monthly rent of $1,325. That’s a gap of $379 — the largest gap of any ZIP in the Houston area and the 12th-largest of any ZIP in the country.

The 77065 ZIP, also in the northwest Houston area, has an average rent of $1,348 for high-end units, which is $356 cheaper than the citywide average. That’s the 16th-largest ZIP vs. city rent gap in the country.

Decent gaps of $247 and $234 are also seen in the 77089 (southeast Houston) and 77095 (northwest Houston) ZIPs.
