Whether you are just starting to blog or have been doing it for some time, we all need topics to blog about. Maybe you don’t know where to start or have hit blogger’s “writer’s block”. No matter what the reason is, here are 25 ideas for blog topics.

Keep in mind that the majority of these topics are not directly real estate-related.  I chose topics with a uniquely local angle, so that as agents, you can always show your clients not only that you are a part of the community, but also an expert on the area that you are writing about, which is something all clients want in a Realtor.

1. Sports Schedules – Whether it is a NBA, NFL, NHL , MLB or Pee Wee sports schedules, this is an easy topic and local. An even better idea would be to do it for local high school football schedules.
2. HOA News – If you live in a HOA, blog about their news. Are there any upcoming events or changes?
3. Market Updates – Have more or less homes sold recently in your area, subdivision, etc.? Are homes values decreasing or increasing?
4. Local News – Is there a new grocery store coming, or improvements to a major highway?
5. Local Bar – Do you have a neighborhood favorite? Blog about it. Then email the bar and link to the blog you wrote.
6. Church Events – If you belong to one, talk about its upcoming events.
7. Charity – If you have a favorite charity, talk about it. Maybe write about how the charity helped someone of a certain group.
8. Weather – This one may sound like a corny idea, but keep folks updated of major weather news. For instance, serious storms or droughts would be possible topics.
9. Old Blogs – Go back and update them. By refreshing them, it shows they are up to date and most likely to be found by Google.
10. Article – You read a great article about real estate, social media, etc. Blog about it and make sure to put a link back to the original article.
11. Question – If you were asked a great question, blog the question and answer. I love this idea because if one person had that question, it’s likely other people do, too.
12. Rename Old Blogs – By changing or improving the name you may get more traffic or attention.
13. Social Media Tips – If you learned something about social media, I’m sure others would like to know about it.
14. Friends – Did one of your friends just win an award or accomplish something? Write an article about it.
15. Local Gas Prices – Write about the cheapest gas price(s) in your area. Its local and helpful. To find the cheapest gas in your area checkout www.GasBuddy.com.
16. Helpful Websites – Do you know of any websites that can save someone money? Ex. www.Powertochoose.org, which helps you shop for lower electricity costs.
17. School Events – It’s local and helpful to parents.
18. Testimonials – Blog a testimonial from a past client and talk about their situation and how you were able to help them.
19. A Recent Deal – Tell a story about a recent client that you were involved with. Make sure you are specific on where they bought the home and how you helped them. This will help you get found in search engines by using the name of the subdivision or neighborhood, while also helping new clients relate to you and the story.
20. Dinner – Just had a great meal at a great restaurant? Blog about it and email the restaurant the link to your blog.
21. You Accomplished Something – Did you get a top producer award? Did the little league team you coach win the championship? Blog about it.
22. Hobbies – Do you love to run marathons? Do you collect anything interesting? Tell people about your hobbies; it may help a client relate to you.
23. Homeowner Tips – Any tip that helps homeowners helps you get noticed. How to take care of your rose bush, or helpful easy-to-do home repairs are great topics.
24. Money Saving Tips – If it can save someone money, we all want to know about it. Write about it and then email that info out to your data base.
25. A Thought – If you have a thought, you have a topic to write a blog about. In short, any idea can turn into a blog topic.

The key to successful blogging is good content and write about local topics. By writing about local topics you are “advertising “  to your clients.  Don’t worry if the topic is not real estate related.  No matter what the topic is, keep in mind you are marketing yourself and showing that you are the local expert for the area.  And that is the key for any Realtor.
