New mixed-use development The White Oak puts the style in lifestyle living

by Melanie Kalmar

Jaxon Hill’s newest mixed-use development, The White Oak, brings the look and feel of a chic, boutique Miami hotel to Houston. Young professionals, empty-nesters, buyers seeking a second home or those relocating from outside of the country will find everything they need to live their best life — all under one roof.

The White Oak is located at 2520 Houston Ave. in The Heights, an upscale neighborhood with locally owned stores, extraordinary dining and historic homes on tree-lined streets. The development is within walking distance to the White Oak Bayou Trail, 17 miles of awe-inspiring green spaces and hiking and biking paths guaranteed to take your breath away.

“It’s a unique opportunity for anyone who’s looking for a seamless lock and leave lifestyle, because you’re in The Heights and have incredible views of downtown Houston,” said Angeline Clark, broker/owner of Monarch Real Estate & Ranch and listing agent for The White Oak. “Unlike other condos, the interior of the building is structured and designed so there are no interior load-bearing walls. You can literally design the unit however you like.”

Whether you desire an open-concept loft-style home or more traditional closed off spaces, the choice is yours.

“There’s a lot of people coming out of large homes, especially empty nesters. They want the lifestyle that comes with living in a condo, but they want to customize the space,” said Mike Davis, president of Jaxon Hill, adding they want finishes that are comparable to what they had and not apartment grade versions. “We provide the opportunity to do that. With 14-foot-high ceilings, they’re getting a vast canvas to really create what they want in the space and make it their own.”

Convenient location

The nine-story development has fantastic views of three major skylines: downtown Houston, the Medical Center and Galleria. It also offers easy access to Interstate 10, which leads to San Antonio, Austin and the west side of Houston, and Interstate 45, which connects to Hobby Airport and George Bush Intercontinental/Houston Airport. Keeping the refrigerator stocked won’t be a problem. Whole Foods, Kroger and HEB are all nearby.

Building amenities

The White Oak’s exterior, a combination of masonry, metal panels and large windows, is 100% modern industrious design. Its grand circular driveway hints at the lifestyle that awaits inside. The posh lobby features a bar, restaurant and old-school parlor games to bring neighbors together or entertain guests.

Among the commercial spaces on the second floor will be a 3,800-square-foot boutique gym, outfitted with technology driven exercise equipment that allows residents and/or their personal trainers to track their workouts on a smartphone or watch. It will also have men’s and women’s steam rooms and a unisex infrared sauna, hot tub and cold plunge pool.

The main amenity is the ninth-floor rooftop deck featuring fantastic views of downtown Houston’s skyline. Residents will enjoy an infinity-edge pool, outdoor kitchen, dining table that seats 16 guests, lounge furniture, fire pit and entertainment area with a 10-foot projection screen visible from the pool.

Resident parking is on levels three through five. Each home comes with two oversized parking spaces that are big enough to fit a Ford F-150 — the most common vehicle driven in Texas, Clark said. The building has high-speed elevators and another unusual perk: an extra-large freight elevator, which is accessed from the loading dock, not the lobby.

Upscale finishes

Priced from the high $600,000s to $6.7 million for the largest penthouse suite, The White Oak has 32 fully customizable units, including five penthouses. Each condo ranges in size from 2,200 square feet to 12,000 square feet for the largest penthouse. As of now, the development is about 60% to 70% sold, Davis said. Of the five penthouses, three are still available.

Penthouses have double height, 24-foot ceilings, large windows and private rooftop decks big enough for pools and outdoor furniture. All homes come with a variety of options. Buyers can choose from spa bathrooms with steam showers, heated flooring, floating vanities, stand alone tubs, walk in showers, saunas and more.

Kitchens can be simple or cater to home chefs with the latest and greatest appliance packages. The same holds true for closets, from a simple rod and shelf to customized boxes that hang from triple the height.

Jaxon Hill serves as both the builder and developer of The White Oak, a unique position that sets it apart from the competition. Like it did with its other mixed-use development, 1111 Studewood in Houston, the company will sell all of the residential units but retain ownership of the commercial spaces. It’s a value proposition that gives Jaxon Hill a vested interest in the project and buyers peace of mind.
