Better Homes and Gardens Real Estate Gary Greene hosted their 24th annual watermelon festival at Hempstead City Hall on July 18th. There were contests for watermelons grown on one acre of soil or less, as well as seed-spitting contests, watermelon games, a picture coloring contest, tractor show and quilt show. A watermelon queen was elected. There was live music and entertainment.
