Jay Bustos is a Realtor for Intero Real Estate in the Inner Loop.

What was your first job in the realty industry?
I started off with my real estate license. I took classes in 2006 and took it seriously in Febuary of 2012.

Where did you grow up?
I grew up here in Houston on the Southwest side of town.

What is your favorite free-time activity?
I wish I had free time! But when i get a chance, I like hanging out with my brother.

What do you do to relax when you’re stressed?
I like watching funny videos on YouTube and Vine. I love laughing. There are some funny people out there.

Growing up, what did you want to be?
It wasn’t so much of what I wanted to be when I grew up. I always thought more about what I wanted to DO. I wanted to fly a fighter jet as a little kid.

If you could have lunch with a well-known figure (living or not), who would it be and why?
I would like to have lunch with Gary Vaynerchuk. That guy is awesome and a genius.

Where is your favorite place to hang out?
If I’m not out with friends, I like hanging out at home, playing Call of Duty online.

What do you love most about the industry?
I love being part of the home buying process. If I am working with a seller or a buyer, handing them the keys to their new home and seeing their faces with a smile is the greatest feeling of accomplishment.

How do you distinguish yourself from the crowd of agents?
Good suits – got to dressed to impress! Just kidding. I become friends with my clients and look out for their best interest. Some agents don’t anwer their phones after a certain time of the day. I always answer unless I am alseep or in the shower.

What is the most difficult aspect of your job?
The most difficult aspect right now would be all of these bidding wars going on. Some houses are so awesome that they have multiple offers on them. You have to make your offer stand out and be reasonable about it too. It’s tough when you lose out on a house, but you have to keep going until you find the perfect one.

Where do you go to network and meet new clients?
I go anywhere I get invited to. Lunches, social events, parties, clubs, little league games, the gym. Pretty much everywhere I go. I have a big mouth, I cant help it. I talk to anyone.

What has been your greatest accomplishment?
I got an award my first year at my company for having Multi Million dollars in sales in Agust in 2013.

What was the last good movie you saw or book you read?
Last movie would have to be “Fast 6,” and I just started reading a new Gary Vaynerchuk book called “Jab Jab Right Hook”.

What is your favorite restaurant?
Mr. Peeples is my favorite right now, hands down. I eat there once a week at least.

Architecturally speaking, what is your favorite building in Houston?
It would have to be the JP Morgan Chase Tower. It has an awesome view of the city from the top.

What kind of car do you drive?
A Mercedes Benz CLS 550 and a BMW 535i.

Smartphone or paper?
Smartphone, for sure.

What is your favorite city after Houston?
Los Angeles, for sure. Beautiful city.

In 10 words or less, what is your advice for someone new to the industry?
Be the best at what you do.

What’s your favorite real estate iPhone/Android app?
HAR. I’m always on it.

Who are your favorite people to follow on Twitter?
Taylor Mays – she is beautiful!
