Agent Snapshot: Maggie McFarland, Realtor, RE/MAX Pearland, TX

Maggie-McFarland-Realtor-RE/MAX-Pearland

Maggie McFarland is a Realtor for RE/MAX Pearland

What was your first job in the realty industry?
My background is in the environmental field. Performing environmental site assessment on mainly vacant land was a large part of my job. This led me to see the residential side of real estate and one thing lead to another, and here I am 20 years now as a Realtor and still loving my job!

Where did you grow up?
My husband and I both grew up in Pearland,TX and were lucky enough to raise our family here.

What is your favorite free-time activity?
My very favorite activity is spending time with all the kids and our two grandchildren. I love sitting back and watching everyone interact.

What do you do to relax when you’re stressed?
Okay, this is not going to be very exciting, but my very favorite thing to do when I am stressed is to cook.

Growing up, what did you want to be?
Growing up, before the age of 10, I wanted to work on a cruise ship. At the time, there was a show on the cruise that made that sort of lifestyle look fun and easy. Now that I have grown up and taken a cruise, I don’t think I would be cut out for that type of work.

If you could have lunch with a well-known figure(living or not), who would it be and why?
If I could have lunch with someone well known I would pick Oprah Winfrey because of how far she has come in life. The amount of people she has helped is amazing and inspires me.

Where is your favorite place to hang out?
My favorite place to hang out is at our home in Galveston. I love fishing and being on the water.

What do you love most about the industry?
My first love about being a Realtor is watching people find a house and close on it knowing this will be their home. I love that happiness, it is so awesome.

How do you distinguish yourself from the crowd of agents?
I try to distinguish myself from other agents by just being me and working hard on every deal. To me it does not matter if my clients are purchasing a home at $50,000 or $600,000, we both know they deserve it and will get the same first class service.

What is the most difficult aspect of your job?
The most difficult part of my job is the constant juggling of my schedule. All too often I will be showing property to a client and need more time. This will mean I have to push back the next appointment. Good for me I have understanding clients.

Where do you go to network and meet new clients?
We meet a lot of new clients around town. I try really hard to do most of my shopping and dinners out in Pearland.

What has been your greatest accomplishment?
Since this is about Real Estate, I will say I have been very blessed to be a top producing agent for several years. But, my biggest accomplishment is my family. All four of our children are happy, healthy, and believe in God. I don’t think much can ever top that for my husband and I.

What was the last good movie you saw or book you read?
The last good movie I saw was “The Vow.”

What is your favorite restaurant?
I have a few favorite restaurants. In Pearland, my picks are Santa Barbara and Big Humphreys. In Houston my two favorite are Vic & Anthony’s and Sambuca Restaurant.

Architecturally speaking, what is your favorite building in Houston?
Heritage Plaza in Downtown Houston is one of my favorite buildings.

What kind of car do you drive?
I drive a hybrid sedan and I get great gas mileage!

Smartphone or paper?
Smartphone and Paper; I am trying hard to take my team paperless by the end of the year.

What is your favorite city after Houston?
Pearland of course.

What is your advice for someone new to the industry?
My advice: work hard and follow a top producer.

What’s your favorite real estate iPhone/Android app?
HAR.com and Mortgage Calculator.

Who are your favorite people to follow on Twitter?
Houston News and Pearland Business Owners.
