Though crime can be found in all major cities, the severity and frequency of it vary greatly from metro to metro, as two new reports from real estate analytics provider NeighborhoodScout recently pointed out.
Annually pulling data from upwards of 18,000 local law enforcement agencies across the U.S., the analytics group compiles top-100 lists ranking both the safest and most dangerous cities in the country. The group determines its rankings considering population and the rate of individual crime types per one thousand residents – crime types including: burglary, larceny-theft, motor vehicle theft, murder, rape, armed robbery and aggravated assault.
For the second year in a row, Ridgefield, Conn., was named the safest city in America, while East St. Louis was named the most dangerous city – a title it has held since 2012.
While not as notoriously dangerous (in terms of crime) as East St. Louis, Houston still managed a spot among the top 100 most dangerous cities, coming in at No. 68. However, one of the city’s suburbs – Friendswood (No. 44) – was recognized as being among the safest markets in the nation.
