In September 2014, Arkansas police discovered the body of Beverly Carter, a Crye-Leike Realtor, in a shallow roadside grave. On Sunday, NBC’s Dateline will dive into the story and once again remind the industry that agent safety is a serious concern, and should be a top priority.

We know safety in the industry is lacking.

A National Association of Realtors survey found last year that more than 50 percent of Realtors work for a brokerage that has no proactive procedures for safety in place. That number is doubly daunting when you consider that 40 percent of those same respondents admit to having experienced a situation that made them fear for their personal safety or the safety of their personal information.

In Dateline’s coverage – which will air Sunday, April 17 at 10/9c – reporter Andrea Canning will recount the case and try to answer the question everyone in the industry has been asking: what happened to her.
