The Houston Association of Realtors welcomed its new board of directors and incoming chairman John Nugent at “Realtor Celebration,” a gala event held at the Houston Country Club on Dec. 19.
The event featured a video about Nugent’s personal and professional journey, which included service in the U.S. Army and a 49-year real estate career culminating in chairing the 40,000 member HAR.
The evening also honored two outstanding real estate professionals. Mike Wong, director of commercial real estate at Keller Williams Realty Southwest and 2019 chairman of the Houston Asian American Real Estate Association (AAREA), was named HAR’s 2019 Realtor of the Year.
Jamie Lynn Gilmore, who died in June 2019 at the age of 37 following a two-decade battle with cancer, was honored posthumously with HAR’s 2019 John E. Wolf Community Service Award. Her family was present to receive the award. Gilmore’s legacy includes the establishment of Jamie’s Hope Foundation, which supports a variety of cancer prevention initiatives as well as research at the University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center.
Finally, HAR President and CEO Bob Hale paid homage to outgoing HAR Chair Shannon Cobb Evans by narrating a retrospective about her year of service, featuring slides from industry conferences and other events she attended on behalf of HAR.
