Houston-area listings, closings continue to lag behind last year’s pace, HAR reports

by Patrick Regan

New listings, listings under contract and closings in the Houston area all remain behind last year’s pace, the latest Houston Association of REALTORS® weekly activity snapshot showed.

Realtors entered 2,649 new listings for the week ending Aug. 22. That’s an 11.3% decline compared to the same week last year, which saw nearly 3,000 new listings.

A total of 1,882 listings went under contract, one-third fewer than the same week in 2021.

Closings for the week were 22.4% below last year’s number and failed to keep pace with 2021 for 11th consecutive week.

Showings increased 12.1% year over year to more than 35,000 last week.
