Texas is one of the most popular states for international buyers

by Emily Marek

Texas, California and Florida are the top states in the country for volume of homes sold to international buyers, according to a report from Texas REALTORS®.

Using data from April 2021 to March 2022, the Realtor association was able to determine that 8% of all homes purchased by international buyers in the U.S. are in Texas.

The report also noted that Texas is the No. 1 location for buyers from Mexico. Additionally, international buyers from Europe jumped 14% this year, accounting for 27% of all internationally sold homes in the state.

“Texas remains one of the most desirable destinations for people looking to purchase a home in the United States,” said Texas REALTORS® Chairman Russell Berry.

Sales to international buyers have been steadily decreasing over the course of the Covid-19 Pandemic. While 14,000 Texas homes were sold to international buyers in March 2020, the number dropped to only 8,000 homes this year. These trends mirror those happening across the country, with international sales decreasing 7.9% year over year in the U.S.
