Houston is one of the most popular places to move to — or, at least the most popular places to think about moving to, according to a new analysis from Redfin.
The real estate site recently reported that record-high numbers of users were looking to relocate in January. Nearly 25% of all Redfin.com users searched for homes outside their current metro area last month — a 2.1% increase from January 2022, and a 6.9% increase from January 2020 (before the pandemic).
While sunny Miami claimed the title of the most popular potential migration destination, Houston was also among the top metros that attracted out-of-state movers. According to Redfin, net inflow into Houston was the 10th-highest of all metro areas surveyed, with 3,700 users looking to move to the Bayou City in January, up from 2,900 users in January 2022.
The majority of potential Houstonians are in New York City, which ranked as the No. 3 metro that homebuyers are looking to leave.
