Freddie Mac to launch down payment assistance program in Texas

by Emily Marek

The Federal Home Loan Mortgage Corporation (Freddie Mac) is set to launch DPA One, a down-payment assistance tool aimed at helping first-time homebuyers in Texas.

DPA One will allow borrowers to compile and compare potential down-payment assistance programs in one place, streamlining the process of selecting the most appropriate program.

“Time and time again, research reveals that the down payment is the single largest hurdle first-time homebuyers need to overcome to attain homeownership. But finding and comparing the many programs and their guidelines is challenging,” Sonu Mittal, senior vice president of acquisitions for Freddie Mac Single-Family. “DPA One delivers a one-stop shop at no cost that brings lenders and their borrowers greater detail and visibility into these programs, while seamlessly connecting the right assistance program with the lender, housing counselors and borrowers who need this assistance the most.”

Via DPA One, Freddie Mac can connect users to national down-payment assistance programs in 48 states, with local and municipal assistance programs available in Texas and Minnesota markets. Local and municipal assistance programs will be available for Florida, Virginia, California and Kentucky users before the end of the year, with remaining local programs going live throughout 2024.
