New-home construction jumped 5.7% month over month after a soft March, according to the U.S. Census Bureau and the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.

Builders have been named for the first phase of development in Grange, a master-planned community in Katy from Johnson Development.

Six builders — Chesmar Homes, David Weekley Homes, Highland Homes, Lennar, Perry Homes and Westin Homes — will build in phase one of construction.

With 488 build-to-rent units completed in 2023, Houston is the No. 15 metro in the nation for this type of new construction.

Legend Homes unveiled plans for Ridgeland Hills, its seventh new-home community in Montgomery County.

Located at FM 1484 and Wally Wilkerson Parkway, the 1,341-acre development will include approximately 2,500 homes upon completion.

Windy Hill Development recently sold 336 acres of land in Esperanza, a master-planned community in Needville, to Lennar.

David Weekley Homes, Empire Communities and Highland Homes will build a total of 261 homes during the first phase of construction.

Plans for the community include over 14,000 residences and 17 million square feet of commercial space.

The project marks Trophy Signature Homes’ debut in the Houston new-home market.

Located near Morton Road and FM 2855, Grange will be zoned to Katy Independent School District.

Venterra Realty recently broke ground on Camber Ridge, a multifamily project located in the Johnson Development master-planned community of Cross Creek Ranch in Fulshear.

Initial deliveries are expected in the first quarter of 2025, with homes ranging from $300,000 to over $1 million.

“It’s always exciting to see what Perry Homes does,” said Virgil Yoakum, senior vice president and general manager of Woodforest.

The Hawthorne received the Houston Agents’ Choice Award for Condominium of the Year in 2022 and 2023.

New Hope Housing recently broke ground on New Hope Housing Ennis, an age-restricted affordable housing community in the East End neighborhood of downtown Houston.
