Gary Stallings has always thought outside the box. Take, for instance, the time that he and his childhood friend disassembled their broken bicycles and salvaged parts to build a new bike that the 10-year-olds shared. Or the time when, at age 18, his father made him responsible for car payments for the vehicle he had bought him. “He told me, ‘If you miss one payment, the car is mine!’” he laughingly remembers as he recalls finding ways to ensure that he always paid that bill. Without a doubt, Stallings’ creativity has made him a visionary in the industry. After all, he was the first real estate agent to place his picture and name on billboards, advertise on movie theater screens and promote himself on grocery store shopping carts. But it was those life lessons in the necessity of ingenuity, hard work and responsibility that spurred the kind of accomplishments for this RE/MAX broker/owner that other real estate professionals aspire to achieve. And that is why Stallings not only holds the past honor of having been named the No. 1 RE/MAX agent in Texas, but also the No. 4 RE/MAX agent worldwide.

Born and raised in Mobile, Alabama, Stallings attended the University of Alabama on a golf scholarship and earned a degree in marketing in less than four years. After successfully operating a chain of nightclubs with friend and former Houston Oilers quarterback Kenny Stable, the pair sold the business in the late 1980s, affording Stallings the flexibility to determine the next step in his career path. While he originally pursued licensure as a real estate appraiser, he was ultimately drawn to residential buying and selling. His acumen for creative marketing, unquestionable professionalism and deep understanding of the Houston housing market earned him nearly $100,000 in commission in his first year, setting the stage for three outstanding decades in the business.

In addition to Houston, Stallings holds his broker’s license in Florida and his home state of Alabama, the latter to which he moved in 2004 after selling his two offices, including one of the largest RE/MAX offices in Texas. Despite purchasing his dream home on the affluent Ono Island, Hurricane Ivan and two subsequent hurricanes within 18 months prompted him to return to Houston with his wife and young son. His passion for what he does best inspired his partnership with Peggy Rudolph and Robb Goedert to launch RE/MAX Vintage in 2010. Starting with just 19 agents, today the state-of-the-art agency boasts nearly 100 agents, who together have established it as one of Houston’s premier brokerages. Nevertheless, Stallings makes certain that the operational side of the business never creates conflict with his personal attention to clients and their needs. “My marketing skills are certainly important to my work, but so is my commitment to customer service and client satisfaction,” he explains. “I stay on top of what’s happening when it comes to each of my buyers and sellers, from the moment we execute the contract until we complete the final phase of the real estate process.”

Stallings is the recipient of the RE/MAX Circle of Legends Award, the company’s highest production honor reserved for professionals who have earned at least $10 million in commission. He holds multiple industry designations in addition to his numerous accolades, including Certified Residential Specialist, Accredited Buyers Representative and Graduate, Realtor Institute. He also co-authored “What the Super Stars of Real Estate Have in Common,” a 2012 anthology that showcases industry experts’ views on success, wealth and happiness. But while real estate has and will always be his passion, this fitness and Harley-Davidson enthusiast puts his family first. “They’re my inspiration and my motivation,” he says, “so I always act with honesty, integrity and respect for others so that they’re proud of not just what I do, but who I am.”
