Kimberly Stephens, Broker & Owner

RE/MAX 5 Star Realty

Kimberly Stephens, broker and owner at RE/MAX 5 Star Realty, had never thought about being in real estate. “I feel like real estate chose me,” she says. At the young age of 19, Stephens gave birth to her daughter, Mikkelle, a micro-preemie. Though blind and autistic and having cerebral palsy, Mikkelle was a musical savant and a blessing.

While at lunch one day with a good friend making small talk about real estate, the friend, a successful real estate agent, mentioned she thought Stephens would be good at it. Stephens didn’t give it much thought; she had been on a long waitlist for in-home care for Mikkelle. But she returned home to find a letter in the mail that the five-year wait was finally over.

Thinking about the opportunity real estate could afford her for income and flexibility, Stephens thought, “Why not?” “I wanted to gain my independence back and be able to help provide for my family,” she says. “Knowing my daughter would be taken care of changed everything.”

Since that day, Stephens has not only helped hundreds of families achieve their homeownership goals, but also helped hundreds of families by giving back. She and her daughter had the opportunity to be the Miracle Family for the Houston area until her daughter’s passing at the age of 11. Stephens has gone on to help raise over $80,000 for Children’s Miracle Network in honor of her daughter’s legacy. She and her fellow RE/MAX agents also helped give away a home to a post-9/11 wounded veteran and have raised thousands for breast cancer awareness.

Stephens was named RE/MAX’s Broker/Owner of the Year for 2020, adding to her multiple awards for production and community service. Looking back at her decision to begin a career in real estate, she concludes, “It’s more rewarding than I could have ever imagined.”
