Texas Association of Realtors Names John Eckstrum Realtor of the Year

The Houston Association of Realtors (HAR) is proud to announce that John Eckstrum of First Group in Conroe has been named the 2010 Realtor of the Year by the Texas Association of Realtors (TAR) during its winter meeting earlier this month. This prestigious award is given annually to a Texas Realtor who, over the past 10 years, has made outstanding contributions to the industry through involvement in his national, state and local associations.

“Knowing John’s dedication to the real estate profession, this honor comes as no surprise and is well deserved,” said Carlos P. Bujosa, HAR chairman and VP at Transwestern. “HAR is proud to represent more than 25,000 real estate professionals, and it’s important to acknowledge and celebrate the achievements of individuals like John who go the extra mile to serve their industry.”

With more than 45 years of experience in real estate, Eckstrum has a rich history of service as a Realtors. Among his many volunteer positions at the local, state and national levels, he has served as president of the Montgomery County Association of Realtors in 1978 and TAR chairman in 2001. In 2008, he was appointed chairman of the Texas Real Estate Commission by Governor Rick Perry. Currently, he is serving on the National Association of Realtors (NAR) board of directors in addition to the Public Policy and Board Jurisdiction committees.

“John Eckstrum devotes vast amounts of his time and talent to the Realtor family and the real estate industry at large,” said Dwight Hale, TAR chairman. “His leadership is marked by his actions. He is enhancing the professionalism of his fellow Realtors and always insists that consumers’ welfare be at the forefront of all decision-making, which is why is an outstanding choice for Texas Realtor of the Year.”

Eckstrum is also a Lifetime Member of the TAR board of directors and member of the NAR President’s Circle. In addition to his contributions to the real estate industry, he has been an active member of his community, founding the Conroe Jaycee Youth Football League in 1967 and serving as chairman of the Youth Rodeo Committee in 1985.
