Aaron-Layman-Broker-Owner-of-Aaron-Layman-Properties-Houston

Aaron Layman is the Broker/Owner of Aaron Layman Properties in Houston

Where did you grow up?
West Texas.

What do you do to relax when you’re stressed?
Go to the gym or play some tennis.

Growing up, what did you want to be?
A professional tennis player.

If you could have lunch with a well-known figure(living or not), who would it be and why?
Matt Damon. I think he embodies the qualities of a successful American who understands that success also comes with responsibilities. Perhaps this is because his mother was a teacher, and he understands that greed is not necessarily good, particularly when greed becomes the overarching theme in a society and its economy.

What do you love most about the industry?
There are plenty of interesting people to meet and every day brings new challenges.

How do you distinguish yourself from the crowd of agents?
I have branded myself as an independent agent because I don’t follow the herd. I’ve seen the underbelly of the real estate business and it’s often very ugly, petty. As a former educator, I feel it’s more important to provide clients with professional, transparent service rather than focusing on the sale. It was the incessant greed (and fraud) in the real estate markets and banking sector which nearly brought down the global economy. I think the world would be better served by a real estate industry that at least acknowledges it’s role in the housing crisis.

What is the most difficult aspect of your job?
Dealing with dishonesty and dishonest people.

What has been your greatest accomplishment?
Aside from marrying my wife, adopting my two sons.

What was the last good movie you saw or book you read?
“The Hunger Games.”

What is your favorite restaurant?
Anything Korean or Indian.

What kind of car do you drive?
Hyundai.

Smartphone or paper?
Smartphone.

What is your favorite city after Houston?
Seoul, South Korea.

What is your advice for someone new to the industry?
Do your homework and treat people with respect.

What’s your favorite real estate iPhone/Android app?
Mortgage Calculator.

Who are your favorite people to follow on Twitter?
Paul Kedrosky and Anthony Sanders.
