The best suburbs in Texas for city-like living

by Emily Marek

Housing migrations brought on by the work-from-home movement have led to an increase in the popularity of suburb living. But which suburbs offer the best combination of suburban community with the benefits of big-city living?

StorageCafe analyzed over 75 Texas suburbs to determine which city offers the best of both worlds for suburban dwellers, using criteria like affordability, new construction, demographics, business, shopping and dining options, education, healthcare, safety, transportation and self-storage options.

The Dallas-Fort Worth suburb of Southlake ranked at No. 1 on StorageCafe’s list, scoring particularly well in local business environment — the city boasts over 63 businesses per 1,000 residents — as well as local amenities and education opportunities (the Carroll Independent School District is ranked among the best in the state).

Southlake was followed by the picturesque San Antonio suburb of Boerne, known for its local economy and walkable downtown area, Hill County Mile. The city’s population has also increased by 32% over the past five years, meaning it’s still growing in popularity.

The highest-ranking Houston suburb on the list was No. 6 Fulshear, whose population has quadrupled in the past five years. Fulshear also ranks second in Texas for building permits, making the city a hub for construction, especially in the master-planned community sector. Additionally, Fulshear snagged the top spot when it comes to the safest cities in Texas.

Here’s StorageCafe’s full top ten list of the best Texas suburbs for city-like living:
