New construction and affordable price points were common characteristics in the third quarter ranking of the Hottest Communities in the Houston Area report from the Houston Association of REALTORS®.

The Huffman area led HAR’s list, up from the No. 2 spot in the second quarter. The community saw a 166.7% annual increase in home sales with an average sales price of $276,515 — well below the greater Houston average of $421,311.

In fact, seven of the 10 ranked communities had average sales prices below the area average, with new construction making up a sizeable portion of sales in many. In No. 4 Waller, for example, new construction made up 87.6% of all transactions, followed by 81.5% in No. 2 Needville and 62.5% in Huffman.

“Buyers are looking for value, and these communities are showing that there are still opportunities to find it,” said HAR Chair Theresa Hill. “New construction is helping meet that demand by offering more choices at different price points. It’s encouraging to see that kind of activity across so many parts of the Houston area.”
