The Greater Houston Builders Association’s Benefit Homes Project broke ground on a new home on Oct. 20 in partnership with developer Land Tejas and builder Colina Homes.
When sold, proceeds from the home, located in the River Ranch community in Dayton, will go toward GHBA’s Charitable Foundation, which will distribute funds to HomeAid Houston, Operation Finally Home and GHBA workforce development, ultimately providing housing for veterans, first responders and individuals and families experiencing homelessness.
Land Tejas, which donated the homesite for the project, first worked with the Benefit Homes Project in 1998. The home is the developer’s 20th with the program.
“Reaching our 20th Benefit Home is something we’re incredibly proud of,” Land Tejas Co-Founder Alan Brende said in a press release. “We’ve been fortunate to be part of this program for nearly three decades, and it’s rewarding to see how much good can come from our industry working together. We’re excited to partner with Colina Homes on this project and continue a tradition that means so much to our company and the communities we serve.”
Colina Homes, meanwhile, is a first-time participant in the Benefit Homes Project. The builder will work with its network of trade partners, vendors and suppliers to coordinate labor and materials donations.
Representatives from GHBA, Land Tejas, Colina Homes, HomeAid Houston and Operation Finally Home, as well as additional industry partners, were present at the groundbreaking ceremony.
“The Benefit Homes Project is a great example of what our industry can accomplish when we come together for a common purpose,” said GHBA President Chris Bolio. “We’re incredibly grateful to Land Tejas for their continued generosity and commitment to this program over the years, and we’re excited to welcome Colina Homes as a new partner. It’s through the support of companies like these, along with our dedicated trade partners, that we’re able to make a meaningful difference in the lives of people throughout our community.”
