Over 90,000 apartments in Houston’s construction pipeline

by Emily Marek

Over 90,000 apartments could join the Houston housing market, according to the Q2 2023 Construction Pipeline report from Berkadia.

In addition to the 7,127 apartment units that have launched in the past year, 24,600 units are under construction in Houston. The area with the most new construction activity is the Greater Heights/Washington Avenue area in Central Houston, although there’s also a significant amount of construction occurring in Katy and Bear Creek in the Northwest.

Furthermore, over 43,000 units are in the planning stages, meaning their respective projects are either approved or proposed. Builders and developers have expressed intent to construct over 11,000 units in Central Houston alone.

This is total madness. They are building at every empty spot available. Whoever approved them got a huge cut or something because the roads and infrastructure is not there to support such construction.
