Houston residents already know that the luxurious River Oaks neighborhood is among the most expensive places to find housing in the area. But how do other Houston neighborhoods measure up when it comes to average price per square foot?
Using data from Homes.com, American Home Shield analyzed listing prices and home sizes in over 20,000 U.S. neighborhoods. River Oaks ranked as the most expensive Houston neighborhood at $481 per square foot — but it wasn’t the only Houston neighborhood in the 610 Loop to make the list.
River Oaks was followed by Crestwood-Glen Cove at $443 per square foot, Afton Oaks at $380 per square foot, Spring Valley at $371 per square foot and Tanglewood at $368 per square foot.
On the flip side, many of the least expensive Houston neighborhoods are farther away from the city center, including the cheapest neighborhood of all, Westwood. The neighborhood has an average price per square feet of only $105 — less than a quarter of the price per square foot in River Oaks.
Westwood was followed by Greenspoint at $106 per square foot, Brays Oak at $117 per square foot, Greater Inwood at $119 per square foot and Cypress Station at $126 per square foot.
Just outside the Houston area, the neighborhood of Jefferson Park ranked as the cheapest in all of Texas. There, buyers can find housing for only $72 per square foot — that’s a far cry from the priciest neighborhood in the state, Northshore Austin, which costs $1,189 per square foot.
