Genesis Garcia Real Estate Agent

Alanis Real Estate Group

What was your most interesting job before going into real estate?
I worked for a new home builder selling new-construction homes.

Where did you grow up?
I was born in Houston, but I really grew up in The Woodlands. I’m proudly first-generation, with Mexican heritage.

Growing up, what did you want to be?
Growing up my biggest dream was to become the first in my family to graduate college and I made it happen. Now, as a real estate agent, I get to live out my passion every day by helping others achieve their own dreams of homeownership.

What do you do to relax when you’re stressed?
I recently bought my dream home on the lake, and it’s everything I hoped for. On the weekends, my other half and I either go fishing or take the boat out to our favorite restaurant.

If you could meet any well-known figure (living or not), who would it be and why?
Oprah Winfrey! She came from nothing & built an empire. She’s amazing!

What is Houston’s best kept secret?
The value you can get in the suburbs and surrounding areas. It’s possible to find your dream home and build equity without breaking the bank.

What do you love most about the industry?
My real estate team. I’m grateful to work alongside the No. 1 real estate agent, Elio Alanis, and I’ve learned so much from him and every member of our team. We grow together, support each other and push one another to be our best, and that makes all the difference.

What is the most difficult aspect of your job?
One of the most challenging parts of our job is adapting when the market shifts. It pushes us to get creative, think outside the box, and find new ways to help our clients win, no matter the circumstances.

What’s your best advice for generating new leads?
The power of social media! Most of our leads come from being active online, plus referrals and our sphere of influence. Show up consistently and authentically. Just be yourself. People that want to work with you will connect with you!

What are you binge-watching/reading/listening to?
I love watching Ryan Serhant’s videos on YouTube and the Netflix series. They’ve taught me so much about mindset and real estate. Right now, I’m reading “Rich Dad, Poor Dad” and wow, total eye-opener. It’s changing the way I see money, investing, and building long-term wealth.

What’s your favorite meal in Houston?
Steak from Maestro’s

Architecturally speaking, what is your favorite building in Houston?
The Williams Tower

What’s the weirdest thing that’s ever happened to you on the job?
I opened the door to a new-construction home and a bunch of dogs came out. I had no idea anyone or anything was inside. Definitely a showing I’ll never forget!

What’s one thing people might be surprised to learn about you?
I’m bilingual. I speak Spanish fluently.

What is your favorite vacation spot and why?
My favorite vacation spot is Greece. I used to spend my summers there and absolutely loved it. I’d always stay on the island of Ikaria.

In 10 words or less, what is your advice for someone new to the industry?
Discipline.

Who are your favorite people to follow on social media?
Ryan Serhart
