The typical $1,500 apartment in Houston is about 972 square feet — over 200 square feet bigger than the national average, according to RentCafe.
Across the U.S., renters who spend $1,500 per month can get up to 715 square feet of living space. However, that average is skewed by drastically smaller apartments in places like Manhattan (where $1,500 only equates to 216 square feet) and Boston (311 square feet).
In reality, though, renters in 63% of the largest U.S. cities — including Houston — can find apartments much larger than 715 square feet.
The average Bayou City apartment is 879 square feet and costs $1,356. That means Houstonians who spend $1,500 per month can afford apartments bigger than the norm. Houston ranked No. 23 for apartment size among big cities at the price point.
Renters can also find above-average apartment sizes in nearby Pasadena, where $1,500 apartments are typically 1,121 square feet, making it the No. 17 small city on RentCafe’s list.
