In today’s real estate market, growth looks different. Rising interest rates, affordability challenges and limited inventory have many agents asking the same question: How do I continue to grow my business when the market keeps shifting?
As the 2026 president of the National Association of Hispanic Real Estate Professionals Houston, I believe this moment is one of the greatest opportunities our industry has seen in years. Here is why.
The Latino homebuyer market is not a niche — it’s the future
Latinos are projected to represent the majority of new homeowners over the next two decades, and in Houston, that future is already here. The demand is real and growing. But the path to homeownership remains difficult for too many families.
NAHREP’s 2026 policy priorities point to the key barriers: housing supply shortages, outdated zoning laws, limited mortgage credit access and the ongoing challenge of saving for a down payment.
When agents understand these challenges, they become more than transaction facilitators. They become trusted advisors. And in a shifting market, trusted advisors win.
NAHREP is more than an organization — it’s a platform for growth
NAHREP gives members access to education that is relevant to the market we are actually in. The focus goes beyond production numbers to the bigger picture: housing supply, credit access, fair lending and affordability. These are the conversations that set NAHREP members apart.
It is also where relationships are built. In this chapter, you are surrounded by Realtors, loan originators, title partners and industry leaders committed to lifting others as well as themselves. The more connected you are, the more value you bring to your clients.
Advocacy is part of the business strategy
Real estate professionals often overlook that many of the decisions that most affect our business happen not in the MLS, but in city council, city planning meetings and state legislatures. Permitting timelines, property tax structures, down payment assistance funding and insurance regulation are not abstract policy debates — they are the difference between a family buying their first home this year or waiting another five.
Being involved in NAHREP gives members a seat at that table. Our chapter engages directly with local and state decision makers on the housing policies that matter most to our clients and our market. When you participate in that advocacy, you develop a deeper understanding of the forces shaping inventory, pricing and credit.
Three ways to use NAHREP to grow your business this year
First, show up. Attend events, join a committee and invest in relationships. Growth happens in proximity, and NAHREP creates the right room to be in.
Second, stay educated. The more you understand the market, from credit access barriers to housing supply policy, the more confident and valuable you become to your clients. Use NAHREP’s resources and conversations to sharpen your expertise.
Third, think long term. NAHREP is not just about what you gain today. It is about the network, the reputation and the leadership opportunities you build over time. Our 2026 board alone includes Texas REALTORS® Leadership Program alumni, Houston Association of REALTORS® Young Professionals Network 20 Under 40 honorees, TREPAC trustees and leaders serving at the local, state and national levels. This organization develops professionals who go on to shape the industry.
Our role is bigger than a transaction
As real estate professionals, we are not just helping people buy and sell homes. We are helping families build wealth, create stability and access opportunities that change the trajectory of a generation. That responsibility requires knowledge, community and a commitment to showing up for the people we serve.
My journey started in Lima, Peru. I moved to the United States at nineteen, found my way to Houston in 2012 and built my career and community here through organizations like this one. NAHREP gave me a platform to grow as a professional, a voice in advocacy and a “familia” when I did not have one nearby.
In 2026, NAHREP Houston is committed to educating, advocating and serving side by side with every agent and partner who wants to make an impact. If you are not yet involved, I invite you to join us. Because we do not shine individually.
Brillando juntos. Together, we shine.
Jenniffer Burnley is 2026 president of NAHREP Houston.
