New NAR Policy Requires Brokers to Opt-in

by Houston Agent

The National Association of Realtors (NAR) established an “opt in” ruling for brokers who want their IDX listings displayed on national franchise websites; the vote took place on May 14 at the Midyear Conferences, and the newly approved vote will become effective in 30 days according to AgentGenius.

The issue has been debated for quite some time now, with a previous alteration to the issue in January, when a policy to display the listings as long as they were granted permission was approved.

Many brokers believe that their control over the listings is important because they are liable for the accuracy of the data, according to REALTOR Magazine.

The updated policy is designed to narrow the controversy regarding who has permission to listings, but the decision will be an ongoing effort, as it will be revisited at NAR’s convention in the fall.
