Agent Snapshot: Vickie White and Manuel Salazar, Partners, The White/Salazar Team, Houston

by James McClister

Vickie-White-Manuel-Salazar

Vickie White and Manuel Salazar are partners of The White/Salazar Team, which is part of Better Homes and Gardens Real Estate Gary Greene.

What was your first job in the realty industry? We were both agents.

What do you do to relax when you’re stressed? We like to golf and travel when possible or needed.

Where did you grow up? I grew up in Michigan and moved to Texas when I was 21 and have lived in Spring 28 years. My partner grew up in San Luis Potosi, lived in California and moved to Texas in 2000.

Growing up, what did you want to be? I wanted to be a flight attendant and ended up working for the airlines for 22 years before retiring and beginning my real estate career. Manuel wanted to be a computer programmer and did do that in California.

If you could have lunch with a well-known figure (living or not), who would it be and why? We have had this discussion and would like to sit down with Bill Gates and see his view on the world and where we are headed.

Where is your favorite place to hang out? We love Vintage Park, plenty of great restaurants with patios to choose from, they have music on the weekends to sit and listen to.

What do you love most about the industry? Finding the right home for our clients, seeing how happy they are when they get their keys. It’s the biggest financial decision most people make, and it’s a great feeling to know we can help them make the right decision for them at that time.

How do you distinguish yourself from the crowd of agents? Our compassion for our clients, we have the knowledge and experience (18 years between us) but we genuinely care if our clients are getting the best home for their money in the right community that will enrich their lives.

What is the most difficult aspect of your job? In the seller’s market we are in now, it’s tough to tell clients they did not get the home they wanted. We are in multiple offers situation quite often, so try to have a couple of options available if this happens.

Where do you go to network and meet new clients? We try to involve ourselves in the local community events. Fall festivals, Easter egg hunts.

What has been your greatest accomplishment? Between us we have raised three fun loving responsible adults. One is an Eagle Scout and another one is in the Texas National Guard. They all work hard and appreciate what they have earned through their hard work.

What was the last good movie you saw or book you read? The Impossible – very moving true story.

What is your favorite restaurant? Pappasito’s.

Architecturally speaking, what is your favorite building in Houston? First City Tower.

What kind of car do you drive? Saturn Aura and a ’99 Firebird (on weekends).

Smartphone or paper? Smartphone.

What is your favorite city after Houston? Washington, D.C.

In 10 words or less, what is your advice for someone new to the industry? Keep continuing your education; the business is always changing.

What’s your favorite real estate iPhone/Android app? HAR.
