Texas ranked No. 6 state for retirement, according to RetirementLiving analysis

by Patrick Regan

Texas ranks No. 6 in RetirementLiving’s 2022 Best States for Retirement report.

The annual report uses 13 data sources and reader feedback to measure states on cost of living, quality of life, health care and other categories, then tallies the results to determine the rankings.

Texas ranked No. 2 in reader feedback and No. 3 in affordability, but it was No. 48 for both quality of life and health care.

“The number of retirees in the state is lower than in others on our list, but there’s still much to do and see in Texas,” said the report, which noted the ample hunting and fishing opportunities in the state.

The top 10 states on the 2022 list are, in order: Florida, New Hampshire, Arizona, North Carolina, Alaska, Texas, South Dakota, Washington, Nebraska and Alabama.

The worst state for retirement, according to the rankings, is Illinois.
