Galveston home wins 2023 LEED Award for Outstanding Single Family Project

by Emily Marek

The U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) awarded 1637 Seaside, a LEED Silver-certified home in the Galveston community of Beachtown, one of three LEED Awards for Outstanding Single Family Project of the year.

USGBC noted the project’s choice of building material — the home is built on concrete pilings rather than wooden ones — as well as the fact that the property meets all storm rating codes, in recognizing the property.

“At a time where energy bills are skyrocketing, and there are record heat waves across the world, ensuring that our homes are able to withstand the effects of climate change and extreme weather is more important than ever,” said Peter Templeton, president and CEO of USGBC. “Everyone deserves to live in a home that is energy-efficient, resilient, provides the highest level of comfort, and is safe and healthy for occupants. Each of this year’s awardees exemplifies these attributes.”
