Heart of Highland, the philanthropic arm of Highland Homes, donated $200,000 to charities around the country last year, keeping with the builder’s corporate mission of giving back to the communities where it builds.
Among the local charities were four Houston nonprofits: Camp Blessing, Communities in Schools – Houston, Sleep in Heavenly Peace and The Beacon. These four charities received $40,000 from Heart of Highland during 2023. Additionally, over 60 volunteers supported four Houston-area charitable events during the year, totaling nearly 250 volunteer hours.
“Their gift meant that we could provide a whole month’s worth of services in The Beacon’s Day Center, which includes meals, showers, laundry, information and referral and mail pickup,” Julie Falcon, chief advancement officer at The Beacon, said in a press release. “We are extremely grateful for their donation and hands-on support.”
“It’s very fulfilling to support local nonprofits every year,” said Amanda McIntire, chair of the Houston division of the Heart of Highland Committee. “More importantly, it helps our team live out our mission statement to ‘provide our employee owners an environment where they can grow, make a difference and have fun doing it.’ By having our employee owners nominate local organizations important to them, we are empowering them to make a difference, not only in the lives of our customers, but to the Houston community, as well.”
