The Greater Houston Builders Association (GHBA) celebrated the groundbreaking of its latest home for charity. Built by Chesmar Homes, the project is located in Elyson by Newland, a Brookfield Properties master-planned community in Katy.

The home is part of GHBA’s Benefit Homes Project, through which association member developers, builders and vendor partners participate in the complete construction of two homes each year. The homes are then sold at market price, with proceeds going to Operation Finally Home, an organization that provides housing to wounded military veterans and first responders, as well as HomeAid Houston, a charity that provides transitional shelter for people at risk of homelessness.

“We are consistently inspired by the remarkable generosity of GHBA members who donate their time, labor, land and materials to the GHBA Benefit Homes Project,” GHBA President Matthew Reibenstein said in a press release. “We are profoundly grateful to Chesmar Homes and Brookfield Development, as well as the countless vendors who, through this charitable project, are providing a sense of security and stability and laying the foundation for a brighter future.”

Chesmar Homes will construct its Sweetwater layout, a 2,988-square-foot home with four bedrooms, 3.5 bathrooms and a two-car garage. The floor plan also includes a foyer, study, walk-in pantry and outdoor covered patio as well as a number of flex spaces. The home is projected to be listed at $599,390, which would be the highest listing price in GHBA Benefit Homes Project history.

“We are deeply honored to be able to contribute to the Benefit Homes Project once again by building our eighth home,” said Chesmar Homes Houston City President Scott Marovitch. “We take great pride in serving the Greater Houston community by doing what we do best — building sophisticated, livable homes.”

Now in its 44th year, the GHBA Benefit Homes Project has raised over $13 million to date.
