Houston homebuyers loved these communities in 2024

by Emily Marek

Cupid struck Houston homebuyers with major love for Brookshire last year — home sales increased by nearly 150% year over year in the community. And Brookshire wasn’t the only suburb with a huge annual leap in transactions.

A recent report from the Houston Association of REALTORS® (HAR) highlights these “most loved communities”: those with the biggest sales increases from 2023 to 2024. All but one of the top 10 were suburban.

Brookshire, located 40 miles west of downtown Houston, took the lead. Total transactions there increased 144.7% year over year with 301 sales, while new-home sales increased 81.1% year over year. Four out every five homes sold were new construction.

The average sales price in Brookshire last year was $335,042 — below the Houston-area average of $406,492. Six more of the top 10 communities also had an average sales price below that average.

“From established areas like Montrose to rapidly growing communities like Brookshire, consumers are finding communities that truly resonate with their needs and budgets,” HAR Chair Shae Cottar said in a press release. “This report highlights the ongoing demand for affordable housing options, and it provides valuable insights for both buyers and sellers looking to make a move in 2025.”
