Trulia Neighborhoods launches to provide crowdsourced localized information

Trulia is launching a new tool to help buyers, renters and agents learn about an area with their new feature – Trulia Neighborhoods.

The new tool, which is available both online and as a mobile app, is a crowdsourced database with information about the details of a neighborhood that would matter to potential residents, such as safety, commutes and parent reviews of schools to help homebuyers determine if that neighborhood is one they would want to be a part of.

Trulia Neighborhoods is built on a feature that Trulia launched earlier this year, What Locals Say. More than 15 million locals have provided reviews and feedback on details from practical tips — like how much street parking is available and if there are sidewalks — to the more specific, like how much “holiday spirit” a neighborhood has.

It is also built upon Trulia’s “Local Legal Protections” tool, which provides information on any non-discrimination laws that exist in those neighborhoods related to sexual orientation and gender identity.

While Trulia Neighborhoods is available nationally, Trulia also has photography and drone footage in more than 300 neighborhoods in San Francisco, Oakland, San Jose, Austin and Chicago with plans to add more than 1,000 more neighborhoods throughout the year.

“Our research found consumers were determined to find this type of information and even developed a series of hacks to source these valuable insights,” said Tim Correia, senior vice president and general manager at Trulia. “It was clear it was time to rebuild the home and neighborhood discovery experience from the ground up and empower consumers with all the information to make the best decision for themselves.”
