Unshakeable empathy and excellent communication are key for Miriam Valencia in her role as CEO and Broker at Alumbra Properties, where she leads 40 agents and closes transactions for satisfied clients daily. These qualities are something Valencia learned before starting her successful career in real estate, while working as a high school teacher. Since her career pivot, Valencia has made a splash in the real estate scene, being named NAHREP’s InfluenceHer of the Year in 2023. She is proud of this accomplishment and the remarkable career transition she made, sharing, “I saw an opportunity to not only fulfill my own dreams of homeownership but also to help others navigate this significant life milestone with confidence and clarity.”
Valencia empowers her team using education, encouraging team members to hone their skills in areas like international property or design by pursuing specialist designations. She also values adaptability, and clients often describe her as proactive. Amid shifting market dynamics, Valencia explains, staying flexible and anticipating trends before they occur equip the Alumbra Properties team to provide relevant and professional assistance to their clients. She describes Alumbra Properties as having a culture of growth and success.
Valencia has seen plenty of growth and success in her personal life as well. “My proudest personal achievement was being able to gain confidence enough to speak about the obstacles I’ve had to overcome and share my story with other aspiring entrepreneurs,” she shares. She has been invited to speak at several business events where her story has inspired others. She says she has even grown to love public speaking, something that used to make her nervous.
To give back to her community, Valencia volunteers with several philanthropic community outreach programs, including Houston Kids Meals and the Navidad en El Barrio Food Drive. When not working or volunteering, Valencia cherishes spending time with her five-year-old daughter. The two enjoy dancing, traveling and reading together.
