Diane Kink is the owner of The Kink Team in The Woodlands.

Every week, we ask a Houston real estate professional for their thoughts on the top three stories from the week before.

This week, we talked with Diane Kink, the owner of The Kink Team, a Keller Williams brokerage in The Woodlands with nearly $63 million in sales volume through September.

Houston Agent (HA): Last week, we covered a rather spectacular story that involved a homeowner purchasing a dream property…only to find it had previously been a meth lab. Although it’s a bit unlikely that you have encountered an identical situation, how would you recommend agents handle unexpected developments in the buying and selling process?

Diane Kink (DK): My job as a Realtor is to serve the best interest of my client, and when unexpected challenges arise during a transaction, I do my best to stay focused on resolution, not emotion. Over the past 14 years, I’ve built a strong network of business partners who I know I can count on to go the extra mile for my clients when something unexpected comes up. The team approach is how I’m able to stay focused on my client during a bump in the road.

HA: Readers continue to follow our coverage on HAR’s bilateral agreement with AMPI, which will, according to the association, make it easier than ever to facilitate deals between agents in Houston and Mexico. Can you speak to why this is so important for Houston’s ever-evolving real estate marketplace?

DK: The Houston market has seen a substantial increase in our international buyer pool over the past several years, and in particular, our clients from Mexico and other South American Countries has seen a surge in the past year. This agreement will certainly be beneficial for our market as it will help facilitate relationships between agents here and our counterparts in Mexico, making the transaction a little less cumbersome for the buyers.

HA: Finally, our story on professionalism generated considerable buzz among our readers. Why is it important, in your experience, for agents to show themselves as professionals to their clients and fellow agents?

DK: As a Realtor, I am not just a professional, but I’m also a small business owner, and the product you are selling is not just a home or piece of land but is also, in fact, you. I’m not sure why you would even consider not putting your best foot forward to earn someone’s business and trust. I liked all three of the points in this article and thought it was a great reminder for my entire team.
